Flexitallic UK – Applications Engineer

Reports to: Applications Engineering & Costings Manager
Benefits: 25 days holiday
Hours: 37.75 per week
Location: Cleckheaton. This position may require some overseas travel
Work pattern: Hybrid. On site for minimum 6 months of initial training period.

Role:

As an applications engineer, you will be working in a team of highly skilled individuals to provide comprehensive and innovative sealing solutions to a global customer base. The role involves providing technical support to both external customers and internal functional departments. You will be working with existing and potential customers to expand your technical footprint by providing a portfolio of sealing solutions through technical knowledge and expertise. You will function as a link between sales, technical and operations and act as a key point of contact.

Key Tasks

• Problem solving and providing technical support to customers in a fast-paced critical environment.
• Providing sealing solutions in a timely and effective manner to minimise downtime.
• Design new and innovative sealing solutions usually backed up by calculations to industry standards.
• Visit customer sites, both in the UK and further afield to obtain information, provide advice and help solve sealing and joint integrity problems.
• Provide technical training for both internal and external staff.
• Function as a technical hub to provide support to internal departments such as Sales, Operations, Quality & Purchasing
• Support R&D team in development of new products.
• Coordinate with global engineering teams in delivering effective sealing/joint integrity solutions.
• Attending technical conferences as appropriate and, on occasion, delivering technical papers to expand the technical footprint of the business.
• Attending joint sales visits with Flexitallic Business Development Managers to provide a technical focus to external sales.
• Other duties within your scope which are deemed necessary by the business for you to effectively complete the job.

Progression

The successful applicant will have the scope to increase their duties both nationally and internationally as a technical expert.

Training

Full product training and all necessary external training will be provided.

Person Specifications

The ideal candidate is likely to have a degree or equivalent in Mechanical or Materials engineering discipline and will have excellent communication skills for what will be a very customer-facing role.

Essential:

Below are essential skills and qualities for this role.

• Must be competent in using AutoCAD 2D. Competence in 3D modelling would be an advantage.
• Must be familiar with stress calculations and ability to interpret and analyse data.
• Must have proven experience in performing engineering design and calculations.
• Must have good presentation skills and previous customer facing technical role.
• Must be able to deal with customers in a professional and helpful manner.
• Must be able to multi-task by dealing with various technical reviews, projects and development activities.
• Must have a valid Full UK Driving License.

Desirable:

Below are desirable although not essential.

• Knowledge of international standards such as ASME, API, DIN, BS etc.
• Knowledge of sealing technology and products would be a distinct advantage.
• Experience of working with Pressure vessel and Piping codes.
• Experience in Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS) would be a distinct advantage.
